Cat 336 Stick Cylinder In The Shop

The cylinder came in beat up, no surprise there. Once we got it apart, the damage was clear, the piston was scarred and gouged, and the barrel had picked up some internal scoring from years of hard work on the job site.

First order of business was the piston. We brazed it right there in the shop, filling in the damaged areas so it could be machined back to spec. From there, we turned our attention to the barrel, honing out the scarring until the bore was smooth and true again.

With both pieces restored, reassembly was straightforward. We resealed the cylinder with fresh seals throughout, pressure tested it, and confirmed everything held tight.

Start to finish, the whole job took 2 business days, and just like that, the cylinder was back in the field, ready to get back to work.
